It's something we often forget to do as parents because we are too busy with our own lives, and often see only the chaotic rooms, the dirty plates on the side, the un-emptied bins, and the piles of washing left abandoned on the floor (I have 4 teens so believe me I know!).
In our desperate attempt to juggle a range of varying needs, unpredictable mood swings, numerous diaries and the chores of daily life, it can become easy to focus on what needs doing as opposed to seeing the delight in a single moment.
A small change in our focus is a good reminder that we have choice as to how we embrace the day and therefore the knowledge that we can EMPOWER our teens by praising them; not only for who they are, but for the good choices they have made. We can show gratitude for the simplest of smiles, for a thank you, or a reminder of the beauty of youth, or for their fascinating inquisitive minds!
No one operates well on 'low' and so give your teen a good top up today of encouragemnt and deliver them a good dose of PRAISE!
As Oprah Winfrey says "The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate".
